ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Norfolk State University expanded its nursing facility for new classrooms, study rooms, faculty offices and other support spaces. Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo installed 16,121 square feet of 3/8″ of epoxy terrazzo throughout the building. As students and faculty enter the nursing building, they will encounter a detailed terrazzo logo that represents NSU. The logo features lettering and a spartan graphic all made with zinc strips. The architects added a moisture vapor system that will help mitigate the risk of moisture rising through the terrazzo floor. Other features of this project include white tread and riser stairs with a precast landing. Using a 200 grit level polish, the white terrazzo floors primarily includes white marble chips. Persian cream, fresh water Mother of Pearl and other natural stones were among the aggregates used in the mix design. Terrazzo continues to grow in popularity to this day. Higher educational facilities like Norfolk State University have relied on terrazzo for its immense durability and aesthetic design to create a more interactive learning environment for current and future students.
