ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Upon completion, the New Science Building at Johnson C. Smith University is now the largest building on campus. Housing Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, student enrollment is predicted to grow in the upcoming years. As a result, Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo worked with the architects to design a terrazzo floor that could help stimulate young minds. Using a 800 level grit polish, 3,733 square feet of epoxy terrazzo floor combines multiple epoxy resin colors with sustainable aggregates like cobalt blue glass. Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo also installed two flights of precast stairs that lead to different classrooms and staff offices. Johnson C. Smith University represents the standard of sustainable design that architects and designers are leaning towards in developing new buildings on a university’s campus.
