ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
The Student Recreation and Convocation Center at Coastal Carolina University was designed to be a multi-functional venue where students, athletes and visitors can come together and engage in one of the premier facilities – a student recreation center, sports venue or campus bookstore. The Student Recreation and Convocation Center is LEED Gold certified. Among one of its features is its terrazzo floors, installed by terrazzo contractor Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo. Today universities who have terrazzo floors proceed with including the school’s logo in the design of the floor. Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo included 1/8″ and 1/16″ aluminum divider strips to layout the design of the logo. The logo gives the center a sense of identity and pride. In addition to the terrazzo logo design, 3/8″ Epoxy was poured into place, using a variety of colors such as teal, dark grey and dark gold. Some of the common aggregates used in the terrazzo mix design at Coastal Carolina University included natural black and white stones with some recycled brown and blue glass. A 4″ precast cove base was also installed. Terrazzo offers high-performance designs in different color combinations that harmoniously blends functionality with aesthetics.
