ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Today the Center of Advanced Studies at Wando is regarded as one of the top schools in the state of South Carolina. A project that began construction in 2014 transformed into an institution that helps prepare students for college or a career after high school. In a generation where students will learn via hands-on experience, Wando offers programs such as media, film, biomedical sciences, cosmetology, and public safety for all interested students.
For this project, Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo installed 3,969 square feet of 3/8″ epoxy terrazzo in the new center. Common resin colors seen in the overall terrazzo design are white, beige and gray. The resin is combined with sustainable aggregates such as recycled porcelain, post-consumer recycled red glass and clear glass. The building contains three floor levels, each connected with a precast terrazzo staircase. The staircase uses 52 sets of tread and riser combination sets with stair landings made of tile. This building was designed to meet LEED® Silver specifications.
The Center of Advanced Studies at Wando is a state-of-the-art school that will facilitate student learning beyond the high school level. Incorporating good design has a positive influence on the learning development of students over time. The terrazzo floors not only add beauty throughout the building, but will create a center that will stand the test of time.
