ABOUT THIS PROJECT:

McKinley Hall at American University was built in 1907, making it one of the oldest buildings on campus. The building received renovation and expansion, that included new terrazzo flooring, installed by Doyle Dickerson Terrazzo. The upgrade in flooring in new state-of-the-art classrooms, offices and other spaces gives this historic building a modern feel. The project was awarded LEED Gold and provides students with a better educational experience. Throughout McKinley Hall, you will find a seamless terrazzo floor with a 200 level grit polish and rectangular designs that help give the space some balance. Various aggregates such as recycled clear glass and fresh water mother of pearl are added to the mix design of the terrazzo floor. Precast terrazzo tread and riser combination stairs are included with this project as well. Terrazzo provides a durable, beautifully aesthetic and easy to maintain flooring option for universities around the world.
